About Fluxblog
My name is Matthew Perpetua, and I’ve been writing Fluxblog on nearly every weekday since February of 2002. I live in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and I grew up in a small town called Cold Spring, which is located about 80 minutes north of Manhattan. I am a graduate of Parsons School of Design.
I served as the Director of Quizzes and Games at BuzzFeed from 2014 through early 2019, and before that I was the site’s music editor and primary music critic from 2012 through 2014. You can find some of my favorite BuzzFeed work here, and a portfolio summing up my behind the scenes work here.
Prior to that I worked at Rolling Stone and Public Radio International, and was a contributor to Pitchfork, Vulture, Spin, Associated Press, MTV, eMusic, Slate, and The Atlantic.
More recently I have contributed to NPR and Decider, wrote liners for a forthcoming reissue project for Concord Music Group, and worked as a consultant for a variety of companies developing quiz products.
I run a second blog called House of X in which I write critical essays about X-Men comics, and recap/review the current ongoing Jonathan Hickman run on Marvel’s X-books.
I am also the author of Pop Songs 07-08, a website in which I wrote an entry for every album track and notable rarity in the R.E.M. discography. You can find a digest version of the site with the songs arranged into albums here.
